#16 Bee Hoon Tiga rasa

This is the 3rd post today... I cooked this for ifthar yesterday for my family. I saw one of my Facebook friends uploading a photo of Bee Hoon tiga rasa that she bought and it made me crave for this. I based on the ikan siakap tiga rasa recipe and changed a few ingredients here and there.

Ingredients:

1/2 a packet of rice vermicelli (this is up to you based on the number of people eating)
2 squids (washed & sliced into rings)
6 prawns (washed)
2 fish cakes (thinly sliced)
3 tbsp chilli sauce
1 small onion (peeled)
2 cloves of garlic (peeled)
10 dried chillies (cut and boiled)
5 limes (for the juice)
3 chilli padi (chopped finely)
1 yellow bell pepper (cubed into small pieces)
2 tbsp oyster sauce
4 tbsp sweet soya sauce
2 tbsp fish sauce
About 5 pieces of kai lan *optional*
Knorr Hao Chi to taste
Coriander for a final touch

Instructions:

Firstly blend the chillies and the onion together to get a paste. In a big bowl, soak the rice vermicelli in water while preparing the wet ingredients such as the squid and prawns. Soak for about 10 to 15 minutes.
Heat the wok with some oil. Sauté the chilli paste and the garlic on medium heat. Once you see the chilli seems to be separated from the oil, add in the tomato sauce, chilli sauce, fish sauce, soya sauce and the oyster sauce. You will get a thick paste from there. Add in your squid, fishcake and prawns to ensure that these ingredients are well cooked, thus they need to be put in first.

Once you see these ingredients are cooked, add in your rice vermicelli. Stir until the noodle is completely covered in the paste. Add in a small cup of water so that the noodles would cook easily and can absorb the flavours better. Add in 2 teaspoons of Hao Chi (some sort of flavouring enhancer), and with this you don't need to add in salt. keep on stirring. Add in your chilli padi. And then squeeze out the lime juice and add in to the wok. Continue stirring.

Lastly, add in your corriander and kai lan, so that the vegetables remain crunchy even after cooking. Turn off the heat and serve with some fried shallots.
It is quite easy to make actually. I spent about $9 to make this and it is really worth it as I get to feed 6 mouths with this. If anything is amiss, it is up to you to add more of what sauce since the amount of rice vermicelli we used differs. That's the beauty of cooking. You just do trial and error! :)

HAPPY TRYING! :) ♡

#15 Fried Mars ball

This shall be a yummy dessert post! Well I am sure most of us have heard of fried mars balls. But to find a halal one is practically impossible. They just like to use beer batter for this recipe. But not for my recipe! :)

Ingredients:

4 Mars chocolate (cut into 5 portions and left in the fridge to freeze)
1 tbsp corn flour
2 cups of plain flour
1 tsp baking soda
Water (just nice to make the batter thick but not so thick; should be thick liquid form)
Oil. (For frying)

Instructions:

Mix all the ingredients (except the chocolates.. duh) together and beat to get a thick liquid mixture.
Heat up the oil for deep frying. Take out the chocolate from the fridge. Dip it in the batter, and fry it. Then toss the oil using kitchen towel.

You are done! This thing is awesome to eat with ice cream! But you can also just enjoy it like that if you are
a crazy fan of Mars like me! :P

HAPPY TRYING AND HAPPY EATING! :)

#14 Kentang Goreng Belado

Salam ramadhan to all my muslim followers. It has been a while since I updated but I have 3 recipes to update. Just couldn't find the time to do so. This is a simple side dish I made for ifthar today just to satisfy my cravings.

Ingredients:

5 potatoes (peeled and sliced thinly)
About 12 mini cucumbers (sliced thinly)
*this ingredient is optional but it's reallly nice to eat so you should put it in!*
2 cloves of garlic finely chopped
1 small onion (cut into quarters)
About 5 dried chillies (snipped and boiled)
3 chilli padi *optional as well*
Salt
Oil

Instructions:

First of all, fry your potatoes lightly so that it would cook easily later on. About 40 seconds or so?
Then take your dried chillies that has been boiled,  blend together with the onion, to get a chilli paste. Once your potatoes are done frying, toss the oil using kitchen towel.

Meanwhile, heat another pan up, add in some oil, sauté your chilli paste and also the garlic. Once you can smell the aroma rising, put in your potatoes and stir fry it until all the potatoes are covered in sambal (chilli paste). Then you snip in the chilli padi into small pieces using scissors and continue to stir. Add in some salt to taste, and then put in your cucumbers last so as to maintain the crunchiness of the cucumber. Add salt to taste, about half a teaspoon? Stir for about a minute more to make sure the whole thing is covered with the sambal, then off the fire. :)

Yeah, you are done. It is THAT simple. Happy trying! :)
